Fall 08 Anime Season In Brief

It’s that time again when Haruhi welcomes us into yet ANOTHER season without her presence .  There are some other shows that have the potential to makes us briefly forget the wonders of Haruhi, briefly… in much the same way that pizza and ice cream make you forget about that bad breakup because of the oncoming stomach ache….

I’m not going to go through all the available options, there are plenty of good sites that will soon do that so I will simply discuss those options which seem to have potential to my viewing (and possibly my readers) interests.

Yozakura Quartet - A show about 3 superpower girls and 1 ordinary guy.  They work together to save the city time and again.  Seems like a twisted take on a harem anime.  Depending on how they handle the guy-to-girl moments, it could either be funny and fantastic, or drop-dead stupid and generic.  No middle ground on this one.  One of the girls has semi-loli potential with breasts that don’t break the bank (and the back).  Interest Rating: C+

Today In Class 5-2 – Absolutely loved this one when Doumu did it last time.  Must have watched those episodes like 5 times each.  So, obviously I have high hopes for this, the animation is being done by another studio which is very disappointing, but I’ll give them a chance.  Definitely going to check this one out.  Spicy Hot Loligasms for all.  IR: A+

Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens – Who doessn’t love shrine maidens?  I dare you find someone >.>  The premise seems kinda generic with an unsuspecting boy creating a shrine goddess from a tree that comes to life and they have to fight evil to save the town.  However, I like the art style of the press shots so I’m going to give this one a look see.  Art can make a bad show acceptable to me, so this one is being given the benefit of the doubt.  Girls are cutely drawn, big plus for Lolispotting.  IR: B+

Tora Dora – Cute girl with crazy small tiger as a “friend.”  Not much other information but that, so far, but its being animated by JC Staff which means that we could be seeing another wrathful loli, which I’m all in favor of.   IR: B

Akane Iro Ni Somaru Saka – Arranged marriage with cute, possibly wrathful, loli and unsuspecting guy.  Could be generic, could be cute.  Art style again seems to be good, possibly based off a game, need to double check that, just a hunch.  High possibilty of loli romance here so checkin it out.  IR: A

OVAs

Lucky Star – Wow, didn’t see this one coming, but on Sept. 29th we are treated to an OVA of the Lucky Star girls.  Hoping that its a bit more than just a long episode but hey, I’ll take any chance to hang out with my favorite undersized girls  Animation is always better in an OVA and KyoAni is the best animator currently out there.  Expect the best in this case.  IR: A+

Quiz Magic Academy – Apparently a show being released in tandem with a new DS game.  Hey, if it proves to be entertaining then I’m down.  From the press shots it looks like there are going to be lots of cute girls in this one being all kinds of awesome.  High potential for good ecchi (not useless ecchi, subject of future post) and maybe even a bit of romance thrown in for fun and in an all girls school situation, that can only be a good thing, ha.  IR: A
